Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC

Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC | Chrono 10:10 11 April 2024

Bulgari has reclaimed its title as the world's thinnest mechanical watch with the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC, with a case thickness of just 1.70mm (!). It is a remarkable achievement in the world of ultra-thin watches.

The journey began in 2014 with the release of the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, which garnered significant attention with its 1.95mm thickness. This turbine-like movement fitting into a case as thin as a coin seemed almost unbelievable.

In 2022, Bulgari introduced the Octo Finissimo Ultra, which held the title of the world's thinnest mechanical watch at 1.80mm. However, Richard Mille's RM UP-01, with its 1.75mm thickness, surpassed it soon after and held the record until now.

The development of the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC involved a collaboration with movement specialist Concepto, completely rethinking every component and reengineering the entire watch. The process resulted in the filing of 8 patents and required meticulous assembly, with each movement taking about a week to complete.

Obtaining COSC chronometer certification adds to the significance of the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC, as it underwent a rigorous 15-day testing process in various positions and temperatures.

The inclusion of a miniature Datamatrix on the back of the watch provides access to all the related data of the watch, replacing the traditional QR code.

Moreover, Bulgari has developed a special box for this exceptional timepiece, featuring a digital interface for winding and setting the time. Simply place the watch in the case, enter the desired time, and initiate the adjustment cycle with the press of a button. Within seconds, the watch is wound and set accurately.

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC is available in a limited edition of 20 pieces, with a retail price of 600,000 EUR. Additionally, Bulgari is releasing another version of the Octo Finissimo Ultra with a thickness of 1.80mm, crafted in tungsten carbide and platinum. This version features blue hour and minute dials and is also limited to 20 pieces.

Overall, the Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC represents a new triumph in the realm of ultra-thin watches, combining exceptional craftsmanship, technical innovation, and meticulous precision in an iconic timepiece.
