Another auction was held, and according to Sotheby's, he broke a new world record. Rolex Daytona "John Player Special" watch sells for $2,500,000

But we know that in 2017 the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 6263 ‘The Legend’ sold for more than $4.100.000

7 participants competed for the right to become the owner of the John Player Special watch, some bid online or by phone, and 3 were present in the hall, including the winner of the auction

The John Player Special gets its name from the black and gold colorway, reminiscent of the John Player Special cigarette pack and the Lotus Formula 1 team sponsored by the British tobacco company John Player & Sons in the 70s and 80s.

One of the secrets of such a high price is that the 1969 watch was put up for auction in perfect condition and without damage. The watches came to the auction from the family of the first owner, where they were kept for 50 years. Therefore, keeping rare watches in their original state is very profitable!
