An interesting piece of the history of Cartier jewelry house

The iconic figure of Parisian fashion, Jeanne Toussin, in 1933 became the director of the jewelry department of the company. During the occupation, Cartier jewelry house became an active participant in the Resistance movement. In particular, Jeanne Toussin owns the brooch, resembling a bird in a cage, which, as you might guess, has become a symbol of Paris captured by the Nazis. Jeanne put a brooch in the main shop window, under the nose of the German invaders. The impudent trick cost Madame Toussin the freedom that she regained to herself, thanks to the efforts of the notorious Madame Chanel, after which in 1944 she created the famous brooch “Liberated Bird”.
